A top ranking in Google - what it takes?

You have the first hit on Google in sight? And not see the forest for the trees?

For a good Google ranking exactly four factors are important!
I call them the COLT principle:

Content (Content)
Your website needs good, i.e. worth reading and worth linking content
Optimization (optimization)
Your website needs to be search engine-programmed and user-friendly!
Links (links)
Your website must be well integrated into the network, that is well be linked!
Time (time)
A good ranking takes time. It's like real life: who is young, is not taken seriously. Google's confidence (and thus the ranking) increases with age. This applies to your domain for your web pages and for all links!

Each individual component contributes to the improvement of the Google rankings. For a very good ranking, you need at least three of them - but the best bit of everything.

The time factor can not fool you, here you just have to have patience.
So use the waiting time to do your homework!
